Hi pop-pickers and welcome to the final Friday Music Shuffle of the summer of 2023. The next one you will see and, I hope, listen to will be in September, the meteorological autumn, or winter as I call anything from September to the end of February.
The format, for one day only, is this. My music device selects ten songs from my collection and I tell you, dear reader, what it’s chosen. And you can make this an interactive event by clicking on the title and singing along.
Hey ho – let’s go!
- Free Life by Neil Diamond. From Diamond’s best album, 1970’s Taproot Manuscript. Contains the unfortunate but well intentioned line, “Pick me a tune, sing it like a black man“. Still, it’s great.
- The Language Of Love by Dan Fogelberg. Brilliant from his 1984 album Windows and Walls. Eagle Timothy B Schmit is on here, as well as the great Joe Vitale.
- A+E by Clean Bandit feat. Kandaka Moore and Nikki Cislyn. This is great from 2014’s New Eyes.
- Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers by ZZ Top. From 1973’s magnificent Tres Hombres, unmistakably ZZ Top magic.
- With My Own Eyes by Sash. Some excellent dance music from their 2000 long player Trilenium.
- Only The Young by Journey. A bit of a guilty pleasure for me are Journey, this from 1983’s Frontiers.
- May I Be The Light by LUMP. Absolutely gorgeous track from their eponymous 2018 debut album. Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay are SO good. Great video, too..
- Get A Move On by Mr Scruff. A belter from his 1999 debut LP Keep It Unreal.
- Déjà Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Incredible title track from their classic 1970 album, written of course by David Crosby.
- Houdini by Foster The People. A cracker to finish with, from 2011’s Torches. Great band.
My Desert Island Disc, by a very short head, is Déjà Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. LUMP had it in the bag until then.
Have a good week ’til next week!
