The Friday Music Shuffle (23.5.25)

by Rick Johansen

Good day everyone and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that ‘exciting’ time of the week when my music machine selects ten random tracks from my eclectic collection and I tell you what it’s chosen.

This only works if you play along and to do that all you need do is click on the song title and turn the speakers up, up, up.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. Mount Everest by Teenage Fanclub. Back we go to 1997 and a great track from Songs From Northern Britain.
  2. Lawyers, Guns and Money by Warren Zevon. Quite magnificent track from 1978’s Excitable Boy, which includes his all-time classic Werewolves of …
  3. Harry’s Place by Bruce Springsteen. Pretty good tune from 2014’s High Hopes.
  4. Let Me Love You Tonight by Santana. This, from 2002’s Shaman, is truly lovely.
  5. Run With The Pack by Bad Company. Title track of the band’s 1976 LP.  Paul Rodgers on tip-top form.
  6. Both Sides Now by Judy Collins. Incredibly, this gorgeous cover takes us back to 1967 and is, in my humble opinion, a million times better than Joni Mitchell’s original.
  7. Dangerous by The Doobie Brothers. Absolute banger from 1991’s excellent Brotherhood LP. Patrick Simmonds at his very best.
  8. Ice On The Dune by Empire Of The Sun. Love this Aussie band. This is the title track of their 2013 album.
  9. Before Tomorrow Falls On Love by David Crosby. Croz’s late career renaissance had many highlights, not least his 2017 album Sky Trails from which this track comes.
  10. Troubled Girl (Spanish Version) by Karen Ramirez. Proper Café del Mar music from back in the day.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Dangerous by The Doobie Brothers.

I hope you played and sang along. As I said, it only works if you do.

Have a good week till next week.
