This time next week, not only will it be pinch-punch time, it will also be the first day of spring. And to celebrate the final Friday of winter, let’s have a special music shuffle.
For one week only, my music device will choose ten tracks from my collection entirely at random and I will tell you what it’s chosen. To listen and even sing, along, just click on the title.
So, without further ado, let’s rock. I hope you find something you like.
- Step In The Arena by Gang Starr. Title track of their 1991 – 1991!!! – album. Guru was brilliant.
- Problem Child by AC/DC. Back to 1976 and the Bon Scott version of the band, with a banger from Dirty Deeds Done Cheep.
- 7 Screaming Diz-Busters by Blue Oyster Cult. Now we go even further back, this time to 1973 and a joint from the excellent Tyranny And Mutation long player. Much more to them than (Don’t Fear) The Reaper.
- Hey You by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Top notch rock from their essential 1975 album Four Wheel Drive.
- Within Without by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Beautiful track from their eponymous 1973 record.
- Whipping Post (Live at Fillmore East) by the Allman Brothers Band. 23 minutes of rock heaven from the band’s Live at Fillmore East LP from 1971.
- Country Girl by Primal Scream. Opening joint from their excellent 2006 LP Riot City Blues.
- M79 by Vampire Weekend. From their first album, Vampire weekend, from 2008. Lovely.
- Say It Again by Badly Drawn Boy. The great Damon Gough with a fine tune from 2000’s The Hour of Wilderbeast.
- Only You by Toto. Lovely track from 1992’s Kingdom of Desire.
Plenty of heritage rock in this week’s shuffle and my Desert Island Disc is Hey You by Bachman-Turner Overdrive, a band who have been a not-too-guilty pleasure for nearly 50 years.
See you in the spring. Have a good week ’til next week.
