The Friday Music Shuffle (20.9.24)

by Rick Johansen

Greetings and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle. It’s that exciting (?!?) time of the week where my music device selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. To listen and even sing along, just click on the title.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. Theme from The Persuaders by John Barry. Back to 1971 for this brilliant tune used for the ITV show The Persuaders, starring Roger Moore and Tony Curtis.
  2. My Hobo Heart by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parkes. I think this is rather lovely, coming from their 1991 long player Orange Crate Art.
  3. Charity by Courtney Barnett. Great song from Courtney’s great 2018 album Tell Me How You Really Feel. Proper rock.
  4. Without Me by Eminem. Back to 2018 for this irresistible banger from Mr Mathers.
  5. Poet by Sly & The Family Stone. Great joint from 1971’s There’s a Riot Goin’ On.
  6. Hey Grandma by Moby Grape. Back to 1967 for a track from this highly influential band.
  7. My Love by Paul McCartney & Wings. I have a lot of Macca music and this isn’t his best song.
  8. Lady Madonna by Allen Toussaint. Quite a decent cover this, from the excellent The Art Of McCartney LP.
  9. Right Now by Graham Nash. Remarkably good new music from the great man’s 2023 album called Right Now.
  10. Hey Tonight by Creedence Clearwater Revival. And finally, an absolute belter from the band’s 1970 album Pendulum.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Charity by Courtney Barnett.

Hope enjoyed that. Have a good week till next week.
