The Friday Music Shuffle (20.12.24)

Christmas Special

by Rick Johansen

Welcome everyone to the Friday Music Shuffle, that exciting (!) time of the week when I set my music device free and it chooses ten random songs from my collection. I then tell you, dear reader, what it’s chosen and, should you so wish, you can click on the title to hear the song and better still sing along.

I hope you find something you like.

  1. Life’s A Miracle by Prefab Sprout. We begin in 1999 and a brilliant joint from Andromeda Heights. Paddy McAloon = genius.
  2. Shattered And Hollow by First Aid Kit. Lovely song from the Swedish Söderberg sisters’ 2014 album Stay Gold.
  3. Family Portrait by Pink. Now we return to 2001 for a track from the excellent Missundaztood long player.
  4. Let’s Dance On by The Monkees. My least favourite track from their otherwise great debut album The Monkees, released in 1966.
  5. The Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann. 1968 now as the Manfred’s cover a Dylan tune bloody well indeed.
  6. That Lucky Old Sun by Bob Dylan. His royal bobness and a joint from his lovely 2015 album Shadows In The Night.
  7. Tom Sawyer by Rush. Absolute classic from 1981’s Moving Pictures.
  8. It Takes A Fool by Jalen Ngonda. Up and coming soul superstar Jalen with a track from 2023’s sensational debut Come Around And Love Me.
  9. Defeat by Animal Collective. Wonderful electronica from 2023’s lush Isn’t It Now record. Warning: 23 minutes long. But don’t let that put you off, even though it will.
  10. Shining Brightly by  Procol Harum. Title track of their 1968 album. Wasn’t Gary Brooker one of the great rock singers?

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Tom Sawyer by Rush.

Hope you enjoyed that. Have a good week till next week!
