The Friday Music Shuffle (16.5.25)

by Rick Johansen

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s fun-packed music shuffle, in which my music device selects ten random songs from my collection and I tell you, dear reader, what it’s chosen.

This only works if you click on the song title and listen along. I hope you do and also that you find something you like.

Let’s go.

  1. Sparkle Up by High Llamas. The band’s Hawaii album shows where the Beach Boys could have gone after Pet Sounds. Quite wonderful.
  2. You Wear It Well by Rod Stewart. Rod at his greatest from 1972.
  3. Any Minute by Ronnie Montrose. Classic rocker featuring Grand Funk Railroad’s Mark Farner.
  4. You Can Close Your Eyes by Dwight Twilley. From his latter day (2011) album Soundtrack and while not at the level of his early work (how could it be?) it’s still decent.
  5. Crack In Your Door by Little Feat. Back to 1970 for a banger from the Little Feat album.
  6. Thoroughfare Gap by Stephen Stills. Gorgeous stuff back from in 1978.
  7. Lay All Your Love On Me by ABBA. 1980 for this absolute classic. I was always a fan of the blonde one. Benny, wasn’t it?
  8. Make Up by Lou Reed. Not a huge fan of Lou but 1972’s Transformer was  exceptional.
  9. Cowboy Of Dreams by Crosby and Nash. Those harmonies! Beautiful.
  10. ROYGBIV by Public Service BroadcastingThey’re just an incredible band. Check out what they do.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Sparkle Up by High Llamas. Do have a listen to their album Hawaii if you can.

Have a good week till next week.
