The Friday Music Shuffle (16.2.24)

by Rick Johansen

Greetings pop-pickers and welcome to the Friday Music Shuffle where my music device chooses ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Click on the song title and you can listen and even sing along.

Hope you find something you like!

  1. Ecstacy by Lou Reed. Title track of Lou’s final album of new songs, released in 2000.
  2. Sound Check (Gravity) by Gorillaz. From their first eponymous album, this one released in 2001. Damon Albarn never stands still.
  3. Didn’t You Say by the Dwight Twilley Band. Bonus track from later editions of Twilley’s brilliant 1976 album, Sincerely.
  4. I Can Dream About You by Hall and Oates. A great cover of this Dan Hartman tune, from H&Os 2004 LP Our Kind Of Soul.
  5. Ladytron by Roxy Music. Simply brilliant track from the eponymous first Roxy album, released in 1972.
  6. Wow by Snow Patrol. Have not always been a massive fan of the band, but 2003’s Final Straw was really something.
  7. Barber’s Adagio For Strings by William Orbit. Not quite the version you might be expecting, but great if you like Trance, which I do, obvs.
  8. Dick Van Dyke Theme by Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. Yes, really, and I absolutely love it.
  9. Belexes by Kansas. Some prog from the band’s eponymous long player from 1974. Gotta love some prog.
  10. O’Malley’s Break by Rush. Short and very sweet from 2011’s Time Machine: Live in Cleveland.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Ladytron by Roxy Music.

Have a good week ’til next week!
