That Friday Music Shuffle (10/11)

Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends. My loyal reader will be familiar with the concept of my Friday Music Shuffle whereby on a Friday I plug my elderly iPod through my high octane sound system and allow it to choose, at random, 10 tracks which I then blog about, simply because I can.

Let’s rock!

1. Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon. And so we begin with Nashville’s very own popular beat combo outfit from their long player Only by the Night.

2. Things We Said Today by Bob Dylan. Staggering cover of the Hard Day’s Night classic by his Royal Bobness. It’s from the Art of McCartney album.

3. With Me Tonight by the Beach Boys. When Brian Wilson failed to deliver Smile as the follow up to Pet Sounds, the record label issued the Smiley Smile record, which was as brilliant as it was bonkers. 1967, I ask you.

4. Come With Us by the Chemical Brothers. A truly great track from a truly great album. Mind you, nothing beats Star Guitar and the accompanying video.

5. Hearts on Fire by Gram Parsons. As near to perfection as it gets. From Parsons’ brilliant Grievous Angel album, here he is joined by the wonderful Emmylou Harris. He died, unbelievably, at the age of 26.

6. Sir Francis Drake by the Piccadilly Strings. No, nor me. It’s from a CD of ancient TV themes I have used in pub quizzes.

7. She Wandered Through The Garden Fence by Procul Harum. From their eponymous long player of 1967 (another one from that year), you cannot mistake the voice of Gary Brooker.

8. Eight Days A Week by the Beatles. Need I say more?

9. In the Garage by Weezer. Epic Rivers Cuomo from the 1994 album Weezer.

10. Holier Than Thou by Metallica. Turn it up (or off, as my partner would say). Mint.

That’s all, folks.
