And now it’s time for some non news:

Almondsbury Parish Councillor Phillip Winter said about muslims, “The feeling most Service-minded folk have these days is one of betrayal of government regarding raghead problems. They are just waiting for the “balloon” to go up when they all start rioting and cutting our throats in our neighbourhoods.”

I can only say how utterly shocked I am by this revelation. Have things really got that bad in Almondsbury? I drove through the village only last week and saw little evidence of riots. I saw a few elderly dog walkers but there was no indication that they were planning jihad. It was more likely that they were headed for the local garden centre, quite possibly to carry out a suicide bombing. This country really must be going to the dogs.

I got to wondering. Is there a mosque in Almondsbury, or perhaps just down the road in Tockington village? Maybe there are issues of female genital mutilation in Easter Compton? Stranger things have happened, but not all that many.

Now the reason I have described Winter’s comments as non news is because it is non news. This is what Ukip are really like, the BNP in blazers, just another far right party masquerading as the party of the working class.

I am at a complete loss to fathom why on earth the good citizens of Almondsbury felt the need to elect a politician whose views are not a million miles away from out and out fascism. I don’t think I am exaggerating here. Hitler himself blamed everything that was wrong in the world on jews and now some nut job of a parish councillor appears to suggest that muslims are the same kind of threat to our way of life. I am no fan of any religion – the world would be a far better place if it was secular and, ultimately, god-free (well, it already is but some people just need further persuasion) – but all the muslims I have ever met seem decent enough people, despite their religious superstitions. I have not known them to wear rags on their heads, but perhaps this is a branch of islam particular only to Almondsbury.

Bizarrely, Winter was Wings Officer for the city and county of Bristol RAF Association so you would have thought he might have a greater understanding of the effects of right wing extremism, as demonstrated by the Third Reich in World War 2.

The man himself says his views were “taken out of context” which seems a somewhat implausible explanation. What other context can there possible be for this? “The feeling most Service-minded folk have these days is one of betrayal of government regarding raghead problems. They are just waiting for the “balloon” to go up when they all start rioting and cutting our throats in our neighbourhoods.” It’s what he believes in, it’s why Ukip exists.

Britain First, the BNP, Ukip. The differences are minimal and largely of presentation. But just remember that if things are this bad in Almondsbury, Thornbury could be next. Just watch out for those riots and throat-cutting. It will probably be those blokes in the local Indian.
